How to put your best face forward this festive season
Grocery shopping? Check. Present wrapping? Check. Work mode shutting down? Check. With your never-ending year-end list, prepping your skin ahead of the festive season is probably the last thing on your mind. “However, it can be one of the greatest gifts you give yourself this December. Putting your best face — and self! — forward, is even more important this time of year as we plan on spending most of our days outdoors, and late nights out,” explains Su-Marie Annandale Clere brand manager.
Taking extra care of your skin and making sure it looks healthy and glows bright this upcoming holiday season doesn’t have to take too much time or break the bank. Annandale provides the following tips:
Taking care of your skin from the inside out is very important and the first step is to ensure that you are well hydrated. Be mindful that you are drinking enough water throughout the day.
Exfoliate regularly, ideally twice a week, to remove dead skin cells from your body and leave your skin prepped and ready to absorb moisturiser. Creating your own body scrub is cost effective and you can make it to suit your skin concerns by adding either of the following to your body lotion or crème: Salt will help relax your muscles, sugar is gentler on the skin, ground coffee has the benefit of caffeine to constrict blood vessels and oatmeal is the gentlest exfoliant to soften and hydrate the skin. Add your favourite essential oils to help relax, soothe, or energise. Once finished applying rinse off in the shower.
Avoid baths that are too hot as this can dry out your skin.
Apply a nourishing body lotion or crème, ideally to your slightly damp skin. Clere’s crèmes and lotions will keep your skin hydrated. Clere’s Vanilla Honey Cream and Berries & Cream body lotions, enriched with tissue oil and pure glycerine, help reduce the appearance of stretch marks* and moisturise the skin. Remember to apply it morning and night, even in summer.
Sleep is vital. It is called ‘beauty sleep’ for a reason. When you sleep your body has time to repair and recover. Not only will you wake up with a glowing complexion, but you will also encourage your body to generate collagen, which helps fight wrinkles.
Exercise is a great way to relieve holiday stress — which can ultimately help tackle stress-related breakouts — and the circulation it provides can be beneficial to the body and skin. Walk off the excess treats during the holiday season for at least 30 minutes a day as exercise can bring oxygen to the skin, improve the look of its tone, and help boost collagen production and detoxification.
