Superfruit, super skin

Superfruit, super skin

It’s a fat, but a healthy one, it’s the perfect accompaniment to nachos, mixes well with balsamic vinegar and a dash of salt and pepper and when you spread it on toast, take a picture, and post it on Instagram, it trends. As delicious as they may be, avocadoes are not just for eating. Packed with potassium, antioxidants, fatty acids and rich in Vitamins A & E, when applied to the skin this superfruit can help reduce inflammation and repair the skin’s barrier.

Wouldn’t it make perfect sense then to combine this wonder ingredient into your moisturiser? Clere’s Smoothing Avocado Milk body lotion and crème is specially formulated for normal to dry skin and will keep your skin moisturised for up to 48 hours. “This is especially important as the cold weather sets in and our skin becomes incredibly dry,” says Clere brand manager Su-Marie Annandale. The Smoothing Avocado Milk range is enriched with triple glycerine and NutriMoist; a combination of pure glycerine, Vitamins E & A, natural moisturising factors, avocado oil and subtle fragrance.

So how can avocado oil further benefit your skin?  Annandale shares some useful tips:

Psoriasis and eczema – The antioxidants and vitamins in avocado oil may help to heal the dry, irritated, and flaky skin associated with eczema and psoriasis. Always test a patch of skin first, to ensure that the oil does not trigger or aggravate symptoms.

A natural acne treatment – When left on for short periods of time and rinsed off with warm water, avocado oil can keep skin hydrated without leaving an oily residue. Avocado oil also has anti-inflammatory effects, which can help to reduce the redness and inflammation associated with acne.

Moisturising and nourishing – In addition to Vitamin E, avocado oil contains potassium, lecithin, and many other nutrients that can nourish and moisturise the skin. That’s why a moisturiser, like Clere’s Smoothing Avocado Milk, with avocado oil as one of its key ingredients, is so beneficial. Apply your moisturiser after your bath or shower, and just before bed, so your skin can absorb the nutrients overnight.

Accelerates wound healing – The essential fatty acids and oleic acid in avocado oil can promote collagen synthesis, which is the process of creating new connective tissue. These fatty acids were also found to help reduce inflammation during the healing process.

Improves scalp health – Applying avocado oil to the scalp can help to reduce dandruff and other problems caused by a dry, flaky scalp. (21 May 2019)
